  1. i have absolutely no clue about chess at all,
i mean, i know the pieces and thats it pretty much,
but i also know that there is so much stategic thinking involved
and thats what got me hooked!
and no german in the top 30, i gotta change that! ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Hikaru plays chess like he's playing Osu! Those mouse movements. I can't even keep up.

  3. Hikaruโ€™s wallet speaks for itself! ๐Ÿ‘œ

  4. Its simply that there is very little showmanship/entertainment in the game itself, those "superb" play requires fellow good players to appreciate it unlike traditional sports which a casual guy can easily enjoy. And no don't tell its just as hard becoming a pro chess player vs a pro soccer/nba player, one needs you to study + have the physicals to thrive in while the other doesn't

  5. Nowadays people can just be a Youtuber and sell courses. That's one way to reduce one's financial dependence on the chess authorities.

  6. But top guys make a boatload
    Magnus has over $50 million

  7. i looked at where magnus carlsen from and looked at the flag, i tought he was from nazi germany๐ŸŒš

  8. We need to have the developers support chess tournaments

  9. really highlights how disturbing it was when russian players were discriminated against because of russophobia caused by the Ukraine war.
A player's personal beliefs on politics should not matter. the only thing that should matter is how well they can play chess.

  10. You really need to accelerate your game. I have to set the playback speed at 2x or else its a snooze fest zzzzzzzzZzzzzZzzzzzz

  11. The question is, how has the increased interest in chess since the pandemic changed the income situation compared to 5-10 years ago?
And how might it be in 5-10 years?

  12. Chess is highly competitive absorbing job. Sure the best make a good living. They have to invest time, go to tournaments, how can they have a regular job when having to go to tournaments? They have to learn to have remote contract jobs. Example: they give you a selling job, you are not 9 to 5 you get comissions upon selling. Like real estate selling. You have to have a schedule. Or having an internet job, you made videos, and market the videos. There are chess players selling training chess videos, that is good because is related with chess. The chess players are intelligent persons but computer programming like java or C+ not for anybody. If not able to financially sustain yourself with chess, is time to study a good paying career and have a regular job. A remember Murphy leaving chess for good. A long time ago.

  13. u just clicked on this video because of hikaru's biceps in thumbnail. i mean that is a good bicep

  14. Professional chess players may not make as much money as desired from tournaments, but the "street cred" acquired from being high rated allows for other commercially successful ventures associated with chess, such as books, lessons, coaching, streaming. These opportunities may even be more fruitful than what they can make playing.

  15. Did he mention the sugar-mommas or would that hit a little too close to the top.

  16. Yea I hate that stupid streamer ranked at number 2 such a loser!

  17. Wonder if this will continue to be the case in the near future? Feels like many media platforms has blown chess' popularity way back up now. I would think there will be more tournaments in the future, especially online tourneys.

  18. Why are so many chess players broke? Because they spend all their time playing chess duh. Seriously though this phenomenon is not unique to the chess world. Most eSports players, dancers/performing artists, and musicians have it bad as well where you need to "work" thousands of hours for free to even have a chance to make money.

  19. Pool players have the same problem…. If you're not any of the top 25, you're not gonna win many prizes above $5000…

  20. That SSS (Some Stupid Streamer) who has 2805 rating.

  21. I am Bizarro Nakumura. Instead of getting 49 correct and 3 wrong in 3 minutes, I would get 3 right and 49 wrong and it would take me 3 hours.

  22. title: Why So Many Top Players Are Broke
    length: 17 minutes
content: 4 mins of Hikaru talking and 13 minutes of puzzle rush

  23. From Hillcrest San Diego — Thank You GM! We're partying and watching your games. lol =)

  24. Hikaru calling himself a stupid streamer is gold.

  25. It comes down to popularity and sponsors. Like how WNBA players want NBA money when the WNBA loses money and NBA a billion a year sport. Chess is interesting to me but would prefer to go to an NBA or NFL game and the cost is more. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  26. Pro skateboarders are also imfamously broke

  27. Wow, I didn't know Andrzej Duda was so good at chess.

  28. Chess needs to be presented and commercialized better to a broader audience and attract some sponsors

  29. Most poker players are broke even pros. If that makes you feel better

  30. If you spends 5-6 hours a day on a game then you will be broke. Work, don't play.

  31. I never knew my man Hikaru has 32 inch biceps ๐Ÿ‘€

  32. any grandmaster who is not making money is wasting quite an opportunity by just not streaming. if most of them streamed and engaged with people who enjoy chess, they would be much better off and spreading the interest for chess in the meanwhile. Of course maybe some of them just dont care about it. But would be nice to see more top level players streaming or doing youtube videos

  33. it's really unfortunate considering chess has consistently been used to promote peace between nations

  34. The way it's described, almost felt like becoming Nihon Ki-in go professional makes more stable living.

  35. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
    it's called the gravy train.
Once your on it, it's all gravy.
Most are running to get on it.
This is nothing new, ITS EVERY competitive structure within games & gaming.
Brain box chess players are just the same as all others. Obtuse

  36. Anand still being in the Top 10 at 52 is super impressive.

  37. You look so desperate to show off your right bicep in the thumbnail. Shirt rolled up and arm flex while holding a wallet. How old are you?
