In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shares with you a major FLAW in the opening preparation of most of the White players on amateur level. This happens in the interesting chess opening weapon for Black in the Caro-Kann Defense, which happens after the following moves: 1.e4 c6.

Even if you don’t play this opening normally, you will learn a simple setup for Black which is going to work wonders for you! A really cool thing about this variation is that over 300K chess players play the wrong move in the 4th move, after 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.c3.

You will learn how to punish White for this passive move, exploit their pawn structure, grab their pawns, and get a winning position!

  2. Great video! Now I actually understood the Karo-Kann Defence
    But one thing
    it scares me
    it is…
    The Light mode on Lichess,
please use some dimmed ones, Dark days, dark mode!

  3. Thank you for this videos I have learnt a lot . I always struggled with black . This video will help me

  4. I think the bishop joining the party on B5 will be bad for black

  5. not 100% sure, but i would guess Bb5, then Nc6 and Ne5.. looks winning to me for white

  6. Bb5 forcing Nc6 & then grabbing Bishop on g5.

  7. Thanks for the video sir…you're one of the best chess channel on YouTube. Love your videos.

  8. Very interesting ideas here I’m gonna apply them ! 👍

  9. Thanks, Igor… this video is more "balanced". Really appreciate you pointing out some counterplay. I am definitely interested in learning more about the Caro Kann. Please make another video.

  10. Actually, c3 is the top engine choice at depth 46. White should play a3 next, though.

  11. The right move is Bb5 attacking the queen and if Nc6, then you just grab the undefended bishop.😄

  12. White can play 3.f3 and avoid all this theory. Also, Caro-Kann will not be the most common choice for black. Maybe 10%. Usually you'll see e5 or c5. Even d5 is more common than c6

  13. 10:52 quiz solution:
    Bb5 forming a battery with Q on black's Q and K

  14. How should black respond if white plays c4 on move 4?

  15. I saw your lecture until minute 8:22 and said "this guy's a real genius!" Many thanks for teach these lines, I'm studying the Caro Kann these days. Quite fascinating defense, pretty interesting.

  16. Please show how the things will go if White immeduately moves Bb5 for Nc6. (Nf3 lets Black to free their queen bishop, it seem to be weak)

  17. I still like the French Defense better at my level. Less theoretical, all the ideas are well known, and white makes the same mistakes over and over again. My favorite line is the exchange because I have a plus score from both sides. I tried the Caro Kan years ago but it didn't suit my personality. We all play better when we are comfortable. Stress slows the brain.

  18. Caro Kahn is a very enjoyable opening thanks bro for the upload

  19. After we move our bishop to g4, pinning the knight, what if they go bishop f4? That move protects the pawn and if they take our knight we can take back with the queen.
