Magnus Carlsen is the highest-rated chess player in history and widely considered to be the greatest chess player of all time. Quick note from Lex: The camera on Magnus died 20 minutes in. Most folks still just listen to audio-only version, but here on YouTube, we did our best to still make it interesting to watch & listen by adding image overlays. I mess things up sometimes, like in this case, and it hits me hard when I do. But I’m always working hard to improve. I hope you understand. Thank you for your patience and support along the way. I love you all.

  1. A couple of excellent humans conversing freely and intelligently. Very enjoyable. Thank you both.

  2. watching this now that he won world championship. fuck the no face cam hurts. he's pretty to look at

  3. 2:28:45 He didn't get teh pun, "How does the NIGHT move?" in other words, how do you play at night…

  4. Asking a solo sport player about team sports is quite interesting

  5. Magnus extreamly humble guy🙏🏻🙏🏻

  6. I like how lex keeps taking notes like a therapist. 🔥podcast

  7. Incredible person! Magnus is so humble and open. You can see that he’s not just the best chess player in the world, but a really nice guy

  8. You're asking such great questions though

  9. Not greatest . Look at the old player they done it with no technology

  10. Magnus only calculates one move at a time basically 🤣he literally just push pawns then just beats you in the middle game.and crushes you in the ending that's just unfair 🤑🤑the goat 🐐🤝

  11. his memory is such a beautiful tool, that miss from higuain in the World Cup final is what I think about … and can agree Messi did enough to already win 2 world cups at least.

  12. I will make you my deity Magnus if you watch the Boston Celtics lmao

  13. 1:07:46 that’s actually very poignant, a strange mix of beautiful, ironic, and lonely. Magnus is my favorite world champion, but the Kasparov-Karpov rivalry and friendship will always be amongst the most fascinating pieces of chess history to me. Especially since it lasted so long.

  14. Aka ''soccer'' :)).. stop it, everybody know what football is

  15. love the ending xD the instant answer about meaning of life xD

  16. Non sono appassionato di scacchi..ma questa è una delle interviste più belle che abbia mai sentito

  17. this, Mr Lex Fridman, is top notch intervieweing. I watch one too many of content creators and the quality you present here reselmbles the great Dick Cavett. Total different style, same level of quality,

  18. God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). We’re not sinners because we sin, but rather we sin because we’re sinners. Sin is the nature of our flesh that we are born with due to the sin of Adam in the garden. For someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless. We’ve all sinned (Romans 3:23), and the the law demands death for those who sin (Romans 6:23). God is righteous, so He must punish our sin, which is what He did through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus is Holy and sinless, yet He received our sin when He died on the cross, so that we can be righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). When He died on the cross, He said “It is finished” (John 19:30), which means He paid the full price for all of your sins (past, present, and future) to be forgiven. He was buried and rose again from the dead. God will forgive anybody who puts their full trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We aren’t saved based on our good deeds, but only by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). His precious blood that He shed is the only reason why we can be forgiven of our sins (Hebrews 9:22). If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9). You are born-again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and are not only legally justified before God, but also are accredited His righteous (Romans 4:24). Believers live for Christ now, so get to know Him through His Word. I recommend reading the book of Romans and the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and watching Pastor Joseph Prince’s online sermons!

  19. Never expected to hear Magnus Carlsen speak about football, but he’s not American so he is allowed😮‍💨

  20. You know you're dealing with another level when your opponent refers to their pieces as 'material'.

  21. Fun isn’t increasing. There’s a give and take. The world is being destroyed and we’re partying in an endless orgy of ignorance calling it “fun”

  22. lololol knows nothing about football – Pelé is the best ever

  23. Yeah camera died but you can allow it to show Magnus showing certain positions? Just let us watch them talk dude 😕

  24. How do you not charge your battery before going into an interview

  25. carlsen is wrong about chess 960. he said the pawns stay on the same square, you even move the pawns around, as long as they are on the 2nd row

  26. Nice work on the camera feed replacement footage! Very interesting.

  27. why the fuck is he the interviewer a robot

  28. Karjakin should have had the right to play Nepo. Ukraine is but a puppet and USA will be no more sooner or later. Then the world will know peace.

  29. FANTASTIC interviewer!! I love that you opened the conversation with football, basketball, and overall questions about personal philosophy. It is a refreshing starter for the conversation to come.

  30. Lex one thing you didn’t talk about was the similarity between Chess and Jiu-Jitsu. It would be interesting what would be Magnus comment

  31. Carlsen and Fridman are "brothers from another mother", can't convince me otherwise.

  32. yo man can your introduction be less cringe and creepy

  33. Magnus lives 15 min away from me. Therefore, i’m pretty important.

  34. Thank you both for an amazing interview. This has to be one of my favourites. I would love to see another episode with Magnus – very inspiring.

  35. It's funny how his dad mentioned the Evans Gambit because it's Agadmator's favorite opening, but neither Lex nor Magnus had any clue why he brought it up.

  36. See the timestamps below.
