  1. Lainey seems to have implied that most of Yuanling's opponents as a youngster were middle-aged men, and that BIPOC players are uncommon. At Toronto's Scarborough Chess Club (where Yuanling played for several years, winning the Club Championship at least once) the majority of players are schoolkids and most come from the East or South Asian communities.
